"Color Expressions" 

"These are paintings that are to be felt, both emotionally and figuratively.  Caress them.  This is art to touch, rearrange and make your own in an intimate personal experience.

Color has great power - to alter moods and heal spiritually and physically.  Let your spirit guide you to your color or colors.  This is art for individual expression:  essences that are subjective and intimate.

The Color Expression paintings are subtle cadences of color and texture which I apply intuitively rather than intellectually.

I work on wood panels applying many layers of Venetian Plaster mixed with powdered pigments, acrylics and oil paints.  This is applied in very thin layers.  After drying, each layer is lovingly burnished with a steel tool to draw out the diffused under-painting and textures.  This process continues layer after layer until I am satisfied with the effect.  The final layer is of Encaustic (wax and resin) which must be applied hot and molten.  After it has cooled and hardened, it is heated again to make the permanent glossy seal.  It may, in time, develop a 'bloom' which significantly clouds, but in no way interferes with the surface.  The Encaustic responds beautifully to the stroking of the human hand, and will answer by shining brightly once again.

After 50 years of painting, exhibiting and selling my figurative work in Europe and in the U.S., I am savoring the joy of using all my technical training and experience to create this new technique and message."
