Encaustic Abstracts

All of these paintings are encaustic on cradled board and need no framing. click on image to enlarge
I make my paint from pure, filtered beeswax, tree resin and powdered pigments. This mixture is melted and worked hot on wood panels. Many layers of molten encaustic are painted and fused onto the surface of the paintings. The layers whisper their subtle messages. Like jazz, there is improvisation that can take work to a deeper, more subliminal state that can be meditative and musical.

The
fluidity of the encaustic paint is challenging, exhilarating and exciting; making a painting that can be looked into as well as looked at. The layered luminosity is appealingly tactile, encouraging viewers to stroke and caress the surface, discovering the sensual experience of encaustic.
