Small Steps

The formulations of this series started many months ago by following my intuitive urgings to add more pattering in my paintings. Using the medium of cold wax and oil painting, wonderful textures can be created, layer by layer and carved back into the surface.

These abstract paintings each came together with staccato brush strokes marking a path through every work of art. I realized that these geometric paint impressions reminded me of life: Two steps forward and maybe one step back, building an irregular path, not to deter our journey but to encourage us to contemplate each step and understand that we are progressing in spite of outward appearances.
 In my advanced years, as I look back over my life, I understand even small steps can take us where we want to go.
